The SBDC at Florida A&M University provides Leon and Gadsden County residents with access to small business counseling and workshops, a resource library, and a computer learning station/internet access. Business owners can come to the center for counseling, information and educational programs geared especially towards small businesses. Appointments are recommended. Small Business Development Centers have assisted hundreds of thousands of potential and existing business owners by providing the management advice, training and information they need to start, grow, and profit. With funding from the U.S. Small Business Administration and partners ranging from institutions of higher learning to state agencies to municipalities, to private organizations, SBDCs are able to offer this management assistance to business owners at little or no cost.
What is Online Business Consulting?
On-line Business Consulting is free and confidential access to expert business advice for entrepreneurs and existing businesses. It is conducted by a Certified Business Analyst (CBA) from a Florida Small Business Development Center (SBDC).
What should I expect?
You will apply for services from your computer over our secure web application. Your application will be forwarded to the SBDC region serving the city you select. Within three working days you will be contacted by that region SBDC. The SBDC may refer you to internet resources based on your stated needs. At some point, you might decide to enroll in a seminar at an SBDC facility, spend time in an SBDC Business Resource Library, or visit the SBDC in person for advice. On-Line Business Consulting is designed to be flexible yet similar to the traditional office-based consulting experience.

The Small Business Development Center@ FAMU, would like to congratulate one of our own, Mr. Jerrod W. Holton. He has been honored by being selected as one of the few that are featured on Tallahassee Community Colleges' 2010 African-American History Calendar. Mr. Holton is a Gadsden County resident and currently holds the position of Mayor of the City of Midway. He is also a 2009 Small Business Advocate Award winner.
Last week, the Small Business and Entrepreneurship Council, an Oakton, Va., nonprofit small-business advocacy group, released its 13th annual “Small Business Survival Index” — a ranking of which states (plus the District of Columbia) were least likely to make it difficult for entrepreneurs to do business from a government-cost perspective.
